We must all have absolute infinite expectations of the dawn and when it is our time, with no fear or hesitation, we must release the bow.”

Recording Release the Bow

We began the recordings for Release the Bow in February 2017. We went to a very cold and frosty Salford where we spent the weekend at Blueprint studios with our favourite engineer Gaz Hadfield. Gaz has worked with some massive names and has got a really good ear for how we want our songs to come across. This time round we wanted to really capture how we sound live, so we set up over the whole ground floor and put loads of microphones everywhere to capture pretty much a live recording. Vocals were overdubbed afterwards and then we finished the weekend with the songs 80% complete.

Armed with the basic bits done, we spent the next few months playing around with different ideas for more percussion and other small bits that would add to the sound of the tracks, without putting the kitchen sink in. The other bits you hear on the record were done at my house (Mick's house!), mostly late at night after my kids had gone to bed and were fast asleep.

We all played all the instruments on the record and the only other musician that was to help us out was Naomi Noad, a really good friend of ours who plays Cello. Naomi played on our first record 'Carnival Town' and did a great job. I love the sound of the Cello, its a really emotive instrument and tells a story all by itself. You can see the 'home studio' in the picture with the lonely Cello. Naomi played on a track that will be released in the coming months so more about her later!
